That warning cleared the to-do list somewhat. We knew we had to get our heads out the sand and take action, but not being experts or campaigners in those days, it was hard to know where to begin.

So we put the kettle on. We started meeting up, thought up a name, and talked over the skills and interests we could bring to the table. Soon enough, because we were a group with a name and a purpose, people started listening to us. 

Our first task was to campaign for our local authority to declare a Climate Emergency. We got to know our councillors, demonstrated outside the Town Hall and spoke at Council meetings, something none of us had done before.

We were told after the unanimous vote in favour, that simply seeing ordinary working parents speak from the heart about their children’s futures, helped to sway the opinion of councillors who were undecided.

This experience showed us the impact we can have when we make our voices heard loud and clear, and we wanted to help others do the same.
